Greetings!
I know that in some European cities (i.e. Prague, Budapest, Vienna) it's possible to attend an organ / classical music concerts at churches and cathedrals. I've been searching on the net to see if anything like that is done in Seville / Granada, but I am not having luck finding any useful information. If anyone has attended such concerts/recitals before, I would love to hear about your experiences.

Mostly I'm interested in the end of Sept - early Oct.

Organ or classical music concerts are normally posted at the church or cathedrals, or at the diocese.

These kinds of events occur in virtually every city of any size in Europe that I've ever been in (and where I live in the US, also), but it's not the kind of thing that is advertised on the internet far in advance usually, as they are small concerts or recitals, sometimes free or cheap. There are some organizations giving "tourist concerts" now like in Prague and Paris, that charge a lot, and those are a different type of thing--they may advertise far in advance and have a website. Most churches have occasional organ recitals by their own organist, also. I think these types of things are best found out about in the actual site in local papers or events guides, or posters at the venue.

It is much too early to find anything about such smaller, cheaper concerts or recitals for next Fall, also.

I attended a really good one at the Seville cathedral when I was there, but I just saw posters at the church, it was something special around SEmana Santa, however. I know they have regular organ recitals at the cathedral, however, during some parts of the year. They also have recitals sometimes at the music conservatory Manuel Castillo, or their students have them elsewhere. They don't have anything listed past May, it seems, and most of their listings are not church concerts but in major venues, rock, etc. But they do have some church ones. This will not directly answer your question, as my experience was at a different time of year. As mentioned above (great info by Christina), many such concerts are not necessarily advertised way ahead of time and also not always seen on the web.

I can tell you that there are some organ concerts at the Sevilla cathedral at various times during the year. For example, being there during the cuaresma (lent) in March one year, they had organ recitals every week (once or twice a week if I remember well), bringing in organists from other european countries as guest performers. I attended one such concert by famous organist Jean Guillou (organ master at St-Eustache in Paris - I had already seen him in Paris)) - fabulous evening! - and also had world renowned French organist Marie-Claire Alain on another evening. I forget for the moment the name of the resident organ master at Sevilla cathedral but he was quite an impressive performer as well.

All were unforgettable moments, and to top it off they all had free admission !

Sorry me again, but José Enrique Ayarra is the name of the organ master at the Sevilla cathedral. If he is performing while you are there, do try to go. I will also add that there is (was?) seating for about 120- 130 persons when I was there and that it was always pretty well full. Presumably they do bring up additional seats if required ...

Thank you, Christina and Kanadajin. yes, I totally understand that it's too early for the actual program for Sept-Oct, but it's good to know that they have these type of events. I realise that if our trip was in summer, we'd have better chances as there are a lot of concerts and events going on at that time. I think that's the type of event Kanadajin was mentioning.

Some churches arrange private (mini pipe organ recitals), we did a 15-min one at the main Cathedral in Budapest. Once we split the price among 15 people in our group, it was cheaper than attending one of those touristy evening concerts (and shorter which was also a bonus ) But I assume since we are going to Seville and Granada, even if there is an option like that, it'd be much more expensive.

This is not really related to organ / classical music per se. But I got a reply from Seville Alcazar mentioning “Nights of the Royal Alcazar", a mix between visit, theatre play, music and dance which is held two days a week. Wish we spoke Spanish so that we could understand.
