Christmas in Portugal recommendations

Jump to last reply

Hi all, my wife and I are contemplating spending our Christmas and New Year's in Portugal. Beyond the usual points about shops/museum/restaurant closures on certain days, and understanding these are family holidays, I wanted to get a feel about special activities and events we should look for, where we, as travelers with no local connection, might participate and enjoy - a special market, an annual performance, a local tradition, etc., anywhere in Portugal. For example, in years past we have listened to the traditional performance of The Song of the Sibyl at the Barcelona cathedral before Midnight Mass, or have eaten the grapes at Puerta del Sol in Madrid and so forth.
