christmas in italy solo

where to spend holidays solo, to be sure there are restaurants and stores open?
i travel to Italy often but have never spent a holiday there

i expect the entire town/city closes

besides Rome or perhaps Milan, what cities would have restaurants open on the 24/25?
i am not worried about the solo part, just not being able to find the basics....

if i want a crowd i can go into any church on the 24, 25 and the entire town will be there!
Rome last year had music in the streets and a xmas market but BEFORE the 23rd.

December is an odd time for resorts to be open, but they have restaurants as well
