Christmas Eve

Can anyone recommend a good restaurant in Trier, Germany, where we could have a traditional German Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve. Thank you.

Beckers and HausBraurai Blesius on Olewiger Str are our favorite places to eat, been a fair few times but not sure what their Christmas Eve stuff is like. There is a famous restaurant on the north bank/cliff of the Mosel that looks down on Trier that might be fun but I forget its name.

Beckers evening meals can be pretty high end, while the Braurai offers both restaurant meals and bar meals, I'd book the restaurant for a more trad experience

Contact the tourist information office in Trier, and ask if they know which restaurants will be open at all on Christmas Eve. Your choice will be very limited. Most restaurants will be closed. The average German spends Christmas Eve at home with family and would never think of eating out that day. So there is no market for the restaurants. Apart from that, restaurant owners and staff celebrate Christmas, too.

By the way, since you want something traditional;-) Statistically the most popular meal on Christmas Eve in German families is potato salad and hot Wiener sausages. The big feast, goose or duck or roast, is usually had on Christmas Day at lunchtime.
