Cheapest way to travel from London to Montenegro

Can anyone please advise on the cheapest way to travel from London, UK to Montenegro. Flying is preferable but I would be happy to travel by train. Are there trains from the airports in Budapest or Rome to Podgorica? I don't want to take a coach though. Well not all the way from London, 2 - 3 hours from an airport would be fine.

Grateful for any help.

Thanks bbib

You can fly from London to Split with Croatia Airlines and then take a bus. However, this may not be the cheapest option. You may be better off with a charter flight to Split or Dubrovnik with someone like Excel Airways or Astraeus Airlines )www.flyastraeus.com).

I would fly. The airlines combinations that serve Podgorica are:

BA/Montenegro Airlines via Rome
Alitalia/Montenegro Airlines via Rome
JAT via Belgrade

There doesn't seem to be any train service that I can find. There may well be bus service, but I would not recommend it for both personal and transport safety issues. I would imagine that there might be buses from Dubrovnik for example as the Croatian Dalmatian coast is very near the Montenegran border.

There are two daily train connections from Budapest.

Overnight train to Belgrade, then change to loco. 18 hours.

Or, IC day train to Novi Sad or Belgrade, and change to night train. 15 hours.

The easiest route would be via Italy. There are good train services (and cheap flights) to and within Italy. From Italy, it's an overnight ferry to Bar (www.montenegrolines.net or www.adriatica.it).
