Cheap trip from Vienna (or close to Vienna) to Lyon (or close to Lyon)
Hey,
I am currently living in Lyon and friends of mine would like to come to visit. Their starting point normally is Vienna.
Unfortunatley I haven't found anything for a reasonable price (neither flights nor trains) for this trip.
Maybe there's anybody who has already experience in travelling from Vienna to Lyon and could recommend something.
Thank you in advance!

According to http://www.flylc.com/directall-en.asp there is a Vueling flight between Vienna and Lyon. An alternative is to find a cheap flight to Paris, Marseille or Geneva and purchase PREM tickets to get to Lyon.

Yeah I think Paris and then via train is the best solution. Lyon is really not a cheap travel destination.
And to be travelling for 12h just to get from Vienna to Lyon, that's not really worth it.
Thank you guys anyway!!

I got there cheaply, but from Barcelona on Easyjet. I don't think Lyon is the only problem, Vienna doesn't have a lot of cheap flights, either, and it's pretty far away. Easyjet has relatively cheap flights from Nice or Prague (less than 100 euro). It's less than 2 hrs from Prague. I think the train from Vienna to Prague isn't that expensive and takes about 4:30. It's a nice train, I've taken it most of the way. It still eats up a day, no way around it.

I checked all plane/bus/train solutions via Budapest, Bratislava, Prague, Dusseldorf, Cologne, Paris, Riga, Gatwick, Stanstead to Lyon, Chambery, Annecy, Geneva and found nothing cheaper than the vueling offer.

It's not exluded that for certain dates you may find cheap ryanair flights from Bratislava or Brno via Charleroi/Stansted to Clermont Ferrand or Grenoble, however.
But I don't think that the total amount to pay for flights (incl luggage and credit card charges) and land transport will be below 100 EUR.
