Hi ladies and gents,
As a born and bred Londoner, all my foreign buddies tell me how expensive my city is so I thought I'd send you a link that will make sure you don't starve when you're in town! It's from a site run by a guy who's the financial expert on all the consumer programmes on TV. The majority of the deals are 2 for 1 and it gets updated all the time:
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/deals/cheap-restaurant-deals
I would be grateful if you could recommend any similar sites from your country, particularly the US/Canada as I will be heading that way soon!
Thanks.

This is great- I will be in London in 2 weeks so I am sure I can use some of these. Thanks.
Thanks, elsell! Do you recommend any of the restaurants listed?
I wish I knew of a similar US site to share. We don't eat out all that often, and it's pretty much local joints when we do.
As another Londoner, I would also like to add a link to a website which offers a range of changing special offers at restaurants, as well as the ability to search for places by location, price and cuisine and read reviews: www.toptable.co.uk
My friends and I use it all the time (as well as the handy link the OP has posted! We're always on the lookout for a good deal!).
Happy eating!
stokebailey - in answer to your question to the OP as to whether any of the places on the moneysavingexpert link are recommended, for what it's worth, I think Strada is the best of them. You can see menus here: http://www.strada.co.uk/
All of them are pretty reasonable chains which can be found all over London, but that one's my personal favourite of those listed.
Thanks, quiUK. Looks good.
That's a useful link Elsell. We live in the UK also and eat out frequently. Since the recession struck, we've rarely had to pay full advertised price anywhere. Virtually every UK restaurant chain is awash with discount offers: £10 off, 2 main courses for the price of one etc... I registered my details with several chains and get emails frequently with discount vouchers. To add to the list, Loch Fyne is currently offering a £10 token off dinner for 2 to those who sign up on their website.
...OK I see Loch Fyne is already on the lsit if you scroll down!
Moneysavingexpert seems to be about chains and fastfood. Don't you have the Entertainment Book there in the UK like in USA and Australia etc ? i.e 2 for 1 and other discounted deals at mainstream restaurants at all levels plus travel and other consumer areas. eg for USA = http://www.entertainment.com and Australia = http://www.entertainmentbook.com.au/
I suspect in these times you will see this in the UK soon if not already there.
Good_Will - thanks for the links to the Entertainment Book. I'm not aware of anything similar in the UK. I'm sure there's a business opportunity there!
stokebailey - of the restaurants currently listed, I agree with quiUK - Strada would be my favourite, and then probably Cafe Rouge.
quiUK - cheers for the toptable link. Will definitely be testing it out soon!
Thanks, elsell. I hope you enjoy your visit. If you're anywhere near my areas of expertise I'd be glad to help out on the US board.
thanks, elsell, very helpful for my upcoming trip.
Thanks, elsell and quiUK - those could be very helpful on my upcoming trip!
If you go to restaurant.com and put in the zip code of where you are going a bunch of restaurants appear and for X amount of money you can get $25.00 gift certificates. Some for as little as two dollars depending on the time of month. I think that the restaurants provide X amount of certificates at the beginging of the month and as they sell out those left get reduced. Have used them in Iindiana, NJ, and Tennesse. Hope this helps.
Thanks, elsell and quiUK!
A lot of local places here offering discounts on restaurant.com are very nice.
Cheers to everyone for responding to my post. I'm crossing the Atlantic at the weekend so thanks kit9172 and stokebailey - looking forward to eating my way across North America!
Where are you going in the US and Canada? The two countries combined are only about 82 times the size of the UK.
Go to Zagats.com. But the US generally is inexpensive compared to London and as the dollar falls, your value for the money will rise.
The Strada offer had expired on Sunday, but then today it's up again until 4th of June. The Covent Garden Strada is not included, but Marylebone High St is.
