Really depends how cheap you want, you can do anything. I'd suggest the Cloister Inn, it's not far from the Old Town square but in a quieter area and is a reasonable 3* hotel (Prague has had some grade inflation, so a 3* hotel is modest). It's around 120 euro per double room in the Spring, for example.
If you want cheaper than that, you have to say so.

Cold that is a great location how was it for noise at night?
I love the nearby Kampa area that is so accessible from there.
I am in Prague several times a year was last there in August and will be back again in just over 2 weeks. I stay out in the Dejvice area at either the Dap Hotel or the Meda-Art hotel, both are decent hotels but the Meda-Art needs a bit of a tidy up ( I have been assured they are replacing carpets this month), both are pretty well priced but you would need to use the Public transport system from there, trams and metro right outside the DAP and only a 2 minute walk from the Meda-Art, so worth considering.Metro takes less than 5 minutes to get you into the main tourist area and tram maybe 10 minutes or so.The castle area is walkable from this area.

Unclegus - good question as I was a little worried about that as well. We were there on Easter weekend and the city was packed. Our room was right at the front facing Mostecka. I just confirmed with the younger adults (we were five) that noise was not an issue.
I think I heard someone say that there was a bit of noise off an interior courtyard but we were not exposed to that area. Enjoy your trip.

thanks ,not that I am likely to stay there but I do get asked about places from time to time. In August the place was mobbed .
I was leading a small walking group (7 folk) and it took ages to get anywhere in the main tourist areas but the great weather really made up for it.Kampa island really is a lovely little haven in the midst of the chaos of Charles Bride, several nice restaurants and pubs, the Lennon wall is in this area (most over-rated tourist sight in the city) but the John Lennon pub is worth a visit.
