If you're going to the Loire Valley, don't miss Chenonceau, an extremely beautiful castle built over the river Cher. I am pretty sure it's the River Cher. It is smaller than Chambord but much prettier. You can cross over to the other side of the river and walk down a bit. Great views for a picnic.

Going on 20 years ago I rode a bike from Blois to Chambord. It's fairly flat and not difficult, but keep your cool with the barking dogs out in the countryside. About half way between Blois and Chambord is a roadside cafe for a cool beer and a pit stop.
