Charley heading for Ireland

Just a heads up for anyone visiting Ireland over the next few days. Weather services are reporting that the remnents of Charley are expected to hit the west coast of Ireland late on Friday. Charley is already causing heavy rain this morning, but weather services are advising that this will be accompanied by high winds over the weekend, especially the west coast, as this is the first land fall the storm will hit after crossing the Atlantic.

Not to be the barer of bad news but if you are here on Vacation over the weekend, it might be advisable to ammend your itineries to plan indoor activities over the weekend! Sitting in a pub listening to some trad maybe!!! Not a bad idea!!!

miguelgcuadra, if you are on the Jewel of the Seas, you will be docking at Ringaskiddy. It's about 15 miles outside of the City of Cork and about 5-7 miles from Cobh. If you don't take a cruise ship excursion, you could take a a taxi into town with another couple and save you a few Euros.

Here's a webside for some suggested cruise excursions. I think the one to Killarney is a stretch.

The downpours we were having of late have cleared up. The forcast is saying that the bulk of the stormy weather will only hit now on Sunday as the storm has moved south of the country. Saturday day time is expected to be okay, but come night fall the winds are expected to pick up with a gale force warning for Sunday. Monday is expected to be wet but the bulk of the storm is expected to have passed by then.

We were lucky that the storm passed south of us, Cornwall and areas of southern England were not so lucky!!

Below is the 3 day forecast from the national weather advisory.

I am located in Dublin and I think the SiobhanP is also by the detailed knowledge she has given on this forum about Dublin.

Hope the details below help, the forecast is for all Ireland, not just Dublin.

3 Day Outlook:
Friday night will be dry and cool as the showers die out; some mist and fog is likely as the winds fall very light by dawn. Saturday should be a dry day with good sunny periods and light winds; temperatures will reach the mid-to-high teens at best. Thickening cloud on Saturday night will bring rain spreading from the southwest on Sunday morning; this rain will be heavy at times on Sunday and may well bring some localised flooding. The rain will be accompanied by a very strong East to Southeast wind which will ease off on Sunday night as the rain turns showery. Some heavy showers are expected through Monday, mixed in with some bright periods; the showers, though, may bring some rumbles of thunder we

Yep! I am in Dublin. This is the worst weather. I see there are landslides in Scotland and I am headed there next Friday. I can't escape it!

PNestor is right Sunday looks to be the start of the badweather again but remember the forecast is never as accurate here as in the U.S. We are in the ocean as an Ireland and things can change faster.

Thanks, pnestor & Siobhan. We arrive Dublin Sunday at 8 a.m. so sounds like we're in for some wet weather!

We live in the US in the high dessert of the pacific northwest and after a hot and very dry summer, we're actually looking forward to cooler, wet weather. This may be a bit more than we hoped for though!

Nonetheless, we can't wait to visit your country.

Thank you for the information!

Hello Pnestor, thank you for information. Yes I will be arriving on Jewl of the Sea. Excursions offerd by cruise line are toooooo expensive and do not enjoy to be with a group of people I do not know.
Think we will head to town by taxi as per your suggestion.
Muchas gracias
