Charles de Gaulle departure
We had a terrible time upon arrival getting our passport stamped (a nearly 2 hour line).
We fly out on Tuesday morning at 10 to return to the US. Does anyone know if it is as bad departing as arriving? We're trying to determine what time we need to be at the airport.
Thank you!!

well, that process obviously is not as bad, as that is only for arrivals, not departures. So you would be comparing two different things -- immigration versus security checks. And of course, what your airline does is a different matter, if you are checking bags, and how they handle that.
Curiously, I've always found departure worse than arrival, but not always, I think some of this is the luck of the draw (my departure times were due to the airline, not security). I've never spent much time going through security when going to a flight to depart from CDG. Of course, I've never spent 2 hrs upon arrival, either, and haven't been there in about 9 months, so who knows.

Commmon wisdom is arrival at airport 3 hours before flight.
I do 2 hours. Never had a problem. Of course I know the airport ans speak the language.
My colleague did 1 hour when leaving for China - end of the day - worked.
My advice is : don't play it tight. Aim 2,5-3 hours and have a breakfast at airport - after security and immigration. Better safe than sorry.

I am hearing many reports about recent lengthy immigration lines, both departing and arriving. I have waiting over 1 hour to have my passport stamped when departing CDG on more than one occasion.
Arriving at the airport 3 hours before your scheduled departure may not be too much time.

Christina, just to advise you That, in France you also clear immigration when leaving. It Is very unusual (for sure not the case in US or UK). Currently, what is creating queues at CDG at departure is immigration not security. This since the last attack. Last time I flew out of CDG2, I skipped the horrendous queue by going through 2F, where There is a less busy immigration check and then a corridor for 2E
