Chania Crete -apartment or home stay

Hello, everyone!

We are about to start planning our trip to Crete next September. Can anyone assist us in the following?
We will be staying for one week and we want to locate ourselves in Chania and surrounding area. We have another week planned but not in Crete.

We are looking for a location that is quiet and away from the noise of the nightlife and airport.

We want a two bedroom place that has a pool, air conditioning, wifi and car parking.

We plan to spend most of our time in Chania and area with a day to Knossos and Rethymnon.

We are not planning to go on any of the windy roads in the mountains due to motion sickness in the family.

Can anyone provide any advise? Thanking everyone in advance.

Hard to get in Chania itself. More available in Akrotiri

Sheila, do you mean in Chania Prefecture as I have read they call it, it is hard. Is Akrotiri a nice area? Far from Chania? Thanks.

No, I meant that a rental with a pool in the town of Chania will be hard. If your catchment is the prefecture, you'll have no difficulty. Can you narrown down where you want to be, please? If it's an apartment, too, you'll likely need to be in a complex, even a smalll one, to get a pool. There is an ample sufficiency to choose from

Sheila, we are pretty open in our thinking. However, this is what we are thinking. We figure we would like a quiet location to enjoy a good night's sleep. We will be renting a car. We were thinking not to stay in Chania as that would be busy. We would like to get up in the morning and do a nice walk and then enjoy the pool or a beach for an hour and then start to sight see. We want this vacation to be a relaxed pace. I am checking the Akrotiri area like you mentioned. We also would prefer a location that does caters more to couples than family and no pets. Thanks again.

Well, we've stayed in the Akrotiri three times, twice herebr />

We liked it very much, and the location too. I have the impression it's a wee bit more built up than it used to be, but...

Sheila, thank you for this information. My husband is thinking about staying at Casa Delfino. I like where you stayed but when I read some of the reviews, people mention they can hear the planes as it is close to the airport. I appreciated all your help.

Has anyone stayed at Casa Delfino? I know there is no pool here so we would rely on going to a beach if we wanted to. We will have a car.

Another question is, does anyone have any recommendations for a nice place in Rethymnon?

Thank you, once again.

We certainly didn't notice planes, but hey ho...

Delfino is too upscale for me.

We stayed here oncebr />

Really liked it, but there was street noise when the tavernas closed

Metohi Kindelis, in a rural part of Chania.. I have not stayed here, but had an outdoor cooking class here. the villas each have their own pool, there is an organic farm and it is quiet and is near enough to town. As for other amenities you would need to check the website.

Maxima, this sounds like a fabulous place. However, when I read the trip advisor reviews, a lot of people speak to the fact that it is near the highway and you hear the traffic. Oh how I wish that wasn't the case. Thanks for your comment.

Any other jewels like this place anyone? How about Rethymnon or near by area as we are looking for somewhere there?

Thanks again everyone.

Casa Delfino is my favourite hotel in Chania, with a great location a few meters away from the venetian harbor..
Just keep in mind that rooms vary in size, some are on the smaller side.

In Rethymno I would recommend Civitas Rethymnae.

Hello everyone. We did not go to Crete in 2015. We went to Italy and had a lovely time.

2017 we went to Barcelona and loved it.

We just booked 2018 - Crete. I am just pulling this back up as I look at places to stay. We will be there 10 days. We want to be around Chania. No interest in Ag. Nikolas area.

Casa Delfino certainly is one we are considering for 3 days. Any further thoughts after two years on the site everyone for a nice place? We really would like to book a place with a pool and a kitchen.

Thanks again. All the best.

What you really want is IDEAL but it's hard to book.... only 30 rooms, however since you have nearly a year, there's a chance. It is the PERFECT place that combines being ON a lovely sandy beach, with a Pool, lovely garden, gourmet chef w. cretan cuisine should you choose to dine there -- and PLUS PLUS on inland side of place, bus stop that takes you to Chania old town - just 5km away-- in ?15 minutes. (note a small road, not major, not traffic). Final bonus a **** experience at Not huge price. It is beloved by families in summer but in Sept, they won't be there. AMMOS Hotel - https://www.ammoshotel.com -- the opening page is plain but a symbol on the right takes you to ALL the links ... FAQ will answer ALLyour questions (yes every unit has a compact kitchenette). Book on its website not thru agency... I don't think Ammos even uses agencies, doesn't have to! I have sent couples there for years & years and every single person has loved it ... I wish you luck!

Have a look at the following website, that will give you an idea of what's available and at what price.
https://www.thehotel.gr

I know that there are standalone villas with pools or small units with 2-3 villas, either with it's own pool or a shared one.... but it's not always easy to find them.

Some years ago a cretan friend of mine did exactly that... he was managing and marketing small villas in Western Crete.....

Look at rentals in village of Douliana just outside of Chania. There are many vacation properties located there.

It's been awhile but we loved our stay at the Casa Delfina. Our lodgings had two bedrooms and three floors and a small kitchen plus living room. Pleasant breakfast in the morning.

My point re AMMOS is that it "ticks all the boxes" whereas Casa D does not ... it is quiet, Has a POOL, yet VERY close to Chania Old town, need not even rent a car until ready to do extensive day trips ..

If committed to Chania, you might take a look at the Porta Antica -- It might not suit your needs, but it is awesome!

You might take a look at my trip for other info about the area:

Enjoy!

I have stayed at Casa Delfino. Be warned that many rooms have stairs INSIDE the room if you don't ask for one without. Our room required going down slippery stairs without handrail to get to the restroom from the bedroom. There are some rooms reachable by an elevator, but there seemed to be just as many reachable only by stairs.

I have also been to Erietta Suites. As you might have read in review, there is no way to get to any rooms without climbing at least two floors worth of stairs.

Both of them were far from the port promenade and were quiet.
