Change a Renfe web-purchased ticket?
Well folks, there's good news and there's bad news. The good news is that I was able to buy two tickets from Barcelona to Granada and got the web prices. The bad news is that somehow I missed the step where I got to select the seats. Our seats are 09C and 09D. I haven't been able to figure out exactly what this means, but we are in tourist class and I am afraid we may be riding facing backward all the way to Granada. We choose the train over a plane to see a bit of the countryside. Is there any good way to (1) determine whether our seats face front or back and 2) if backward, make a change?

It will cost you to make a ticket change, but it may cost more than it's worth if you have a web fare.
Based on what you've offered, your seats will be rear facing.

I think you may be able to change them at the station a few days in advance unless the train is full. I do not think this would entail any fee as it is only a seat priority.. not change of date or train.
Hope you are lucky. Sorry I have no experience in this kind of change but I am confident that if they can help you they will.
There may be empty seats anywhere in other cars.. and you can always go to the cafeteria ( if that train has one)

Thank you all for your help. We will try to make a change once we arrive in Barcelona. The train makes many stops so I am guessing it may be difficult to simply move to a different seat unless the seats are somehow marked to indicate they are reserved for someone boarding at another point along the route.

From the Renfe web site where you would normally purchase tickets, there's a button for changes. Enter your booking and ticket number, you are able to make the necessary changes. It will look like you are repurchasing, but there should be 0 additional cost.
