We will be arriving in Paris on New Year's Eve day with our two daughter, 16 and 19 yrs old. We think we would like to go to the celebration on the Champs Elysees and at the Eiffel Tower. Do you have any tips or suggestions for us?? Concerned about where to go,when, what to do, safety issues etc. Thank you for your help.

It would be advisable to make dinner reservations forthwith. There are many nice, reasonably priced places near the Eiffel Tower. We love Auberge du Champs de Mars. Dining along the Champs Elysees is more expensive and not as good (in my opinion). There are wonderful sidewalk places near the Bir Hakeim metro stop (closest to Eiffel Tower) including a place with incredible sandwiches (similar to subs) not found anywhere else in Paris. Paris is so beautiful once the sun goes down and the lights go on. Start at one place and walk to the other. A wonderful place to "sit" is the terrace at Chez Francis near Pont de l'Alma on the corner of Montaigne and George V - and it's about half way between. Be sure to dress for the weather, so you will be comfortable when out and about. The major safety concern in Paris is pickpockets. Have on you ONLY what you need - a bit of cash and a credit card. Make sure this is secure in your under your clothing security pouch. Bring photocopies of your passports and leave the real ones in the hotel safe. Again, not likely that you'll "lose" it, but best to be careful. If you are planning on using the metro, buy a "carnet" of ten tickets (you can share them - ask for a CARNAY). Make sure everyone has a ticket and a contingency plan for returning to the hotel, just in case you get separated. Not likely, but you never know. Make sure the kids know how to get back to the hotel. While in Paris, be SURE to take a boat ride down the Seine. There are many to chose from - our favorites are the ones across the bridge from the Eiffel Tower.
