Central Italy itinerary

Jump to last reply

Hello fellow travelers, would love some feedback on what you think of my itinerary for Italy thus far. Am travelling with husband and almost 2 year old toddler. We have been to Tuscany our last trip and just love the countryside and our food! Loved it so much we named our daughter sienna.

Dates from 23rd September 2013 (yes a bit last minute but the opportunity to take holiday came up and you can't say no)

- 3 nights lake como, staying in hotel Florence in bellagio booked
- train to bologna thinking of basing myself here for 4 nights to do justice to Modena, Parma etc. Do you think I could just train it to all the other towns and not bother with hiring a car?
- 3 nights Tuscany will hire car
- 3 nights Umbria staying in spoleto I think will also hire car

I would appreciate any advice as to where to base myself, towns to visit (especially those little charming ones that few tourist frequent), restaurants etc. accommodation too would be great. Love staying in farmhouses or apartments as it gives me chance to buy produce at the markets and enjoy.

Thanking you all in advance!
