cell phones in England

My family and I are planning a trip to England in August. There are nine of us on this trip and need cell phones. Ours do not work over there and need to rent them. Does anyone have any suggestions for renting. We are thinking two will be just fine.

Thanks!!

I don't know about renting - but you can buy a basic phone loaded with call time for as little as £20 each.

Especially in England, renting is most assuredly not the way to go....click on my name above and find the answer I gave to a recent poster whose daughter will be spending 9 months in the UK...UK sims are almost literally being given away the competition is so fierce and assuming you are from the United States, there are some very very attractive rates to call the USA on providers such as Orange abroad, Mobile World and T Mobile UK and you will always get free reception of calls while in the UK.

Thank you very much for your help. I really need it. Part of our problem we just found out is our group is arriving in terminal three and one. We need to locate each other becasue the shuttle to the hotel is picking us up at terminal one. We need to find each other. Unless someone knows of a good meeting spot in terminal one that my sisters can get to from three. We were hoping to have them before we left. Is this possible?

You can get them before you leave but it will be somewhat more expensive...once you're out of immigration and customs you can walk between terminal 1 and terminal 3 (albeit a long walk but very very doable...in the middle is the entrance to the Underground for terminals 1, 2 & 3. Why not agree to meet there?

xyz123 is infallible on mobile phones, but he sometimes stutters on the topography of the world's busiest internatonal airport. You can't meet at the Underground because the hotel pickup won't be able to get to you (there is a car pickup there, but it's impossible to find)

When the T3 mob arrive, walk through the underpass to T1 (it's only a long walk if you've got mobility problems).

At T1 international arrivals (they actually have arrivals at T1 that haven't come from a foreign country, however against nature that might sound. But it's signed like any other British airport: "arrivals" means international arrivals, and the domestic bit is specifically singled out), stand outside the Customs exit. Alternatively, there's a Costa coffee place a couple of yards away with monitors. Wait there and either move to the Customs exit when the monitors say "baggage in hall" for their flight, or download the terminal map from http://tinyurl.com/y282gn and get the T1 arrivals to come to you.

I don't think it's possible for arriving passengers to buy mobile phones at Heathrow (though if you've nothing to do, try the Smiths near T1 domestic departures). But once you're in town, practically anywhere sells mobile phones
