We are almost finished planning our May 2014 Scotland trip, but need help with the last night of lodging. All other nights we are staying in B&Bs in the 100 pound per room per night range. For this last night, we would like to splurge. ("Splurge" to us means 150 - 250 per night.) We will be in the Glencoe / Loch Lomand area and want to find something like a castle or mansion. We tried Glencoe House, which looked wonderful, but the rates were 300 per night. Out of our range. Does anyone have any other ideas? We are considering Glenfinnan House, which had OK reviews on TA. But we were hoping for something more grand.
Maybe my budget and my fantasy does not match?

OK £300 is too much, so what IS your budget?

'Grand' and 'budget' are seldom compatible.

Glenfinnan House is 2.5 hours from Loch Lomond (note the spelling) and is about an hour from Glencoe so isn't near either one.

You are geographically constrained; These are the ones I would pick in your vicinity and price range. Barcaldine's a bit off the main drag for you, but is benefits from being a castle.

Thanks Sheila. The Barcaldine Castle looks like it should fit our needs. We are planning on spending the day hiking and taking scenic drives around the area, so I assume this is a fine location for that?

well, it's down by the shore, so open walking. But lots of nice places to drive round.
