Cars in Provence

Cars in Provence
Traveling in July with extended family for a 2 week trip to Provence. We have rented 1 car and 1 van. Is it feasible to travel by van on the roads in Provence. We are based out of Sur la Sorgue.

Absolutely! Not sure what your concerns are? There will be traffic and heat but the roads are easily navigated. A van would not be too large although you will find some small town parking lots and spaces tight. Enjoy and don't fret.

Jenny, I just spent time driving through the Luberon, Avignon and the area around Les Baux de Provence. Here is what I found in that region.
Once you get off the two lane main highways (like D900) the roads primarily only have markings on the outside of the roads and the roads are not very wide. In some of the villages the roads are even smaller. A few times I winced when a larger vehicle passed us in the opposite direction. I just had to make I was as far right as possible.
French drivers in the Luberon were polite but they do expect you to follow the rules and drive the speed limit (usually 90kph) or get out of the way.
So to answer your question from my perspective....it all depends how comfortable you are driving a van. I am assuming your van is the smaller version I saw in France. I did see small motor homes so I know people do drive through the area in larger vehicles but I didn't see the motor homes in the villages. They parked in the perimeter lots and walked in.
I was very comfortable driving. I would not go to the area without a vehicle. You will love it.
