Message: I am planning a trip to Naples and want to visit Capri. Should I go by myself? Or join a tour? Also, how long should I plan to stay? <BR> <BR>Thank you

Capri in less than a day is almost an impossibility. As for a tour or alone, that's up to your personal preferences. <BR>If you go alone, leave the port as quickly as possible and get up top to the town of Capri, or Anacapri. From either of these pretty towns (Capri is the more elegant) there are many beautiful walks in every direction. <BR>The views are tremendous. Go to the "natural arch, or to the "Faraglioni" (giant stones in the sea). Also, I recommend you not waste half the day going to the blue lagoon.

I personally loved the Blue Grotto (are you sure you meant Lagoon?). Thought it was worth the 1.5 hours it took, not half a day. And I'd spend the night. That's when Capri is at its most exciting.

If you do a search under "Capri" you'll find a lot of responses most of which can be lumped into two distinct groups. #1) the people who did a day trip there and said it was just another touristy island and nothing special. <BR>#2) the people who spend at least a night or a couple of days who say it is wonderful. <BR>That should tell you something. And I see no reason to take a tour there, do it on your own.

We honeymooned in Capri this past June and it was amazing. An overnight stay is a requirement in my opinion. At about 4:30 or so, all the daytripper boats leave and the island is magical. We stayed at the Punta Tragara. We were so happy just sitting on the balcony overlooking the Faraglioni. We stayed 4 days and could've stayed more.

Even overnight is not enough time to see all that Capri has to offer. You'd also want some time to sit and watch the world go by. Besides the sites mentioned above, there are the ruins of Villa Jovis, the Gardens of Augustus, Villa San Michele at Anacapri and the old monastery (now a school?) that had some mysterious paintings in it.

suggest you take the time to hike up via tiberio to the top of the mountain to the old ruins of tiberius castle the view is amazing. also bring some water with you its a long way up

Firstly you mean Capri, and overnight, get things right, otherwise, you can never be taken seriously in this world. <BR>Besides that, stay a night it is worth it, try the Grand Quisiana, or perhaps visit Ischia, more natural, and stay at the Grand Punta Moline Terme.

I spent yesterday on Capri and it was beautiful but cold. I can see why an overnight would be lovely in warmer weather, especially to let the "day trippers" go home! <BR> <BR>You don't need a tour to go there, simply take the SNAV hydrofoil (20,000L each way) from the Mergellina port in Naples. It couldn't be easier.

I would like to add a chairlift trip from Anacapri up to Monte Solaro as a great thing to do on Capri. The views are great. <BR> <BR>Who is this horrible Miles person with all of his unpleasantness? Must be trying to compensate for an extremely tiny little p_____.

I agree with Debbie about the chair lift, but if you are at all ambitious, hike back down. It's a very easy, well marked trail that goes behind some little farms and houses with gardens, plus the views are great all the way down. Of course, if you are really ambitious you could hike up too, but I believe in doing it the easy way. The hike helps me justify some of that pasta.

Does the ferry go from Capri to Positano in April? Or just during the summer months. The guide books don't specify. Any ideas on that???
