Yes, many people have rented cars in Seville. The major rental companies have fleets at the main train station, Estacion Santa Justa. Search on this thread for car rental info generally.
If you will keep the car for several days and return it in Seville, make sure you know where you will park it. In the older areas of the central city, parking can be scarce and expensive.

Hi, Rosalie:

About five years ago I rented a car at Santa Justa train station and kept it for several days, driving to the beautiful hilltown of Ronda and to Granada. I returned it to the car rental area at the airport when I was finished using it (I was then flying to Barcelona). Excellent experience! Getting out of the cities and driving through the countryside is a valuable, unforgettable experience in Spain! Best of luck!!

Would suggest you arrange for your car rental before you leave. It's my understanding that rentals are much more expensive if you wait until you get to your destination in Europe to make those arrangements. Airport pickup and drop-off are also more expensive than city offices.

If you wish to use the car as DeanJr did for trips to nearby places, it would be worthwhile. However, if you just want the car for city use I think that would be a mistake. We stayed in the Santa Cruz area and parking was almost non-existent. Additionally many streets are very narrow and difficult to navigate.

We loved Seville and I know you will enjoy your visit there.

We rented from Hertz in Sevilla at the train station - reserved in advance as recommended above. Be prepared for a long wait as they are not as computerized or seemed efficient in getting the cars/contracts/people through the system. Check to see if your credit card will provide insurance abroad as well since if you choose this option, the price rises dramatically. If you're planning to see the pueblos blancos, also consider that the streets are narrow so a smallish car is best and you'll be driving a standard transmission in very tight quarters. We had a blast!
