Car Rental in Ireland and Sixt Car rental Company
I will be in Ireland in September and wonder if anyone can suggest a good reliable car rental company with good rates.
I found a really good rate on the internet through Nova and the rental would be through Sixt. But when I did a search on this forum, there were only negatives comments on this company from a couple of years ago. Does anyone have any recent experience with them?
I'd appretiate any suggestions.
Lee

I have used Dan Dooley and was very pleased. Others on this site have also posted good comments. Got a better rate with them than I could find with anyone else, including autoEurope, which I thought was unusual. It required a full advance payment, but no problems and they were very nice to deal with.

I rented from Alamo recently. My friend did the actual booking and got a very good rate thru Costco Warehouse. I also looked at Alamo's website and saw excellent rates.

If you have a gold or platinum MASTERCARD (not VISA), the Collision Damage Waiver is taken care of, quite a large saving
Thanks Patrick and Steve.
I have always used Autoeurope and was quite surprised at how high their quote was. I'll check Dan Dooley and Alamo.
The last time I went to Ireland was 6 years ago and at that time my Visa covered the insurance, but I do understand that has now changed.
Thanks again.
Lee

I recently rented through AutoEurope. The are now contracting with Hertz. I feel I got a great rate, the best that I could find on the Internet at the time.

We will be arriving in Dublin on May 11. We reserved a car through Nova and the rental is actually with Budget. The rate was much better than the quote from Dan Dooley. After receiving an instant quote on the Nova website (www.rentacar-ireland.com)I confirmed the reservation by telephone and received their confirmation no. and details by e-mail the same day. If all goes well when we pick up the car at the Dublin airport we'll be happy travellers! Be careful of using your Mastercard for insurance coverage if you are going to be renting for more than 14 days - I think that is the limit for one continuous rental.

I'm not sure what the rates will be for Dan Dooley during your travel time; but I have used DD twice and been very happy with them.

Lee,
Definitely go with Dan Dooley. I've used them numerous times (I go home to Ireland at least twice a year) and I always get great rates. You can get an immediate quote on their website. Check it out at http://www.dan-dooley.ie

I'm going home again in September, this time to get married, and will no doubt use Dan Dooley again!

Regards,
Mary

Lee,
I've rented from Sixt 5 times in the last 2 years, and an equal number of times when they were Thrifty. They changed from Thrifty to Sixt in 1998, they are now also a Dollar affilite.
I book with Atlas Travel www.irelandtravel.com or 800-222-8060 and on a trip in Mar. the rate was $104/wk ins. covered by MC for the smallest car. Bigger cars and auto-trans is higher of course. I've checked Don Dooley for the same car and it's $157.50. I've always had nice cars(often upgraded) and good service. The only complaint I have is that they try to sell you extra insurance, but almost all rental companies do that. Sixt has a web site or book with Nova, but for some reason I still get a better rate when I book with Atlas.
