I've taken into account terrific suggestions from posters on this board re our Italy portion of our September trip. After nine days on Corsica we take the ferry from Bastia to Livorno. After an overnight we train it to Sestri Levante where we stay three days. Another train takes us to Camogli where we hang around for two days. THEN we were hoping to drive the old riviera by renting a car in Genoa or nearby, staying two nights in Alassio. We'd drive the hill towns and poke around. We'd drop the car in Sam Remo and take a train on to Nice.
Where are the car rental offices in San Remo (sanremo) or anywhere west of Alassio? I've called several companies including Kemwel and they say there are no car rental offices past Genoa. We definitely don't want to drive the car into France and incur the huge charges. Do we have to skip this stretch of old Italy??

Sixt has a car rental station in San Remo.
http://www.sixt.com/car-rental/italy
German-based Sixt is one of the largest rental car companies in Europe. It is very professional and reliable and has good rates.
Auto Europe shows an office in downtown San Remo
I'm on it, thanx. Ideally we'd like to pick it up in Savona and drop off in San Remo. Sixt has closest pick up in Genoa only and auto europe says I need to call them. Is it easier to take the train from Camogli to Genoa Airport or city center to pick up the car? Any estimate of drive time from Genoa to Finale Ligure? to Alassio?
Grazie.
I think it is better to take the train to Genove-Brignole, which is the airport station and pick up the car there.
Driving time from Genova Airport to Finale Ligure ist 1 hour, to Alassio 1:15.
You can use www.sixt.com to reserve your rental car.
I rented a car in San Remo recently so I know it is possible. Sadly my brain cannot recall the name of the agency.
Since Genove-Rrignole is only an hour from Finale Ligure, I'll book it once I compare prices from Sixt and Auto Europe. Thanks so much, I really appreciate this on the spot help. More questions to come when I need to book trains.
