car rental
I am flying into Vienna, spending a week in Ramsau, and flying out of Salzburg. I thought I would rent a car in Vienna when I land and return it in Salzburg when I leave. Can you make a recommendations about this? Or should I fly into Vienna, take a train to Salzburg to get the car there in order to return it to the same place I rent it?

Look at AutoEurope or Economy Car Rental. There's also Gemut (I think that's the spelling).
Are you going any place other than Vienna and Salzburg? If not then take the train between the two towns.

Hi D,
You will need an International Driver's Permit (https://autoclubsouth.aaa.com/home.aspx ) for Austria.
Also, make sure that the car has a road tax sticker (vignette).
Add www.kemwel. com to your list.
Whether to drive or train depends on what you want to see between Vienna and Salzburg.

When I have rented cars in Spain, this was not the case.
There are varying requirements according to the country. Italy requires it, but not France. I don't think that Ira is trying to mislead you when he states that you need one for Austria.

Thanks M,
>Ira, Are you certain that I will need an international driving permit? When I have rented cars in Spain, this was not the case...<
We are no longer in Spain, d.
Make sure you have the vignette. If you don't, you will be stopped if you drive on throughways, at which time you had better have your IDP.
Enjoy your visit.

International Drivers Permit is required in Austria. This may law . If unfortunate enough to be stopped by police, you need to show it or be fined.
Most every rental firm in Austria will have a yearly vignette already fixed to the rental car.
Taking the train from Vienna to Salzburg is fast and not expensive .
www.westbahn.at
You can buy ticket for this journey on the train as you depart Vienna.
www.oebb.at
In both cities an auto is an expensive liability with costly parking etc.
Salzburg is relatively small for tourist visits - rent an auto in Salzburg as you leave the city - cheaper
