Car Rental

We will be renting a car in Madrid for a week in June. Any suggestions for best value? There are four adults traveling with one small bag each so need something of reasonable size. Prices seem pretty steep with Entertainment club discount and GPS is pricy too. Anyone know of any place to get good deals?
Thanks,
Arlene

kemwel.com had the lowest rates when we were looking for a car in France.

AutoEurope and Kemwel. And if you use some of their European websites instead of the US one, you can often find an even better deal.

arlene17 - Try to find folks that have rented more than one time in Spain. I'm sure StCirq and others who will chime up, have.

Spend 1/2 hour to an hour looking at AutoEurope, Kemwel, Hertz, Avis, et al. If you have a favorite from previous rentals, tie goes to familiarity.

Check insurance that exceeds your CC limits and weigh that factor in. Don't marry someone who laughs at your mistakes. Sometimes I can't get her to stop laughing.

I've used Hertz multiple times in Spain and happen to be familiar with them because of European business trips. Cheapest does not equal best rental.

My last trip I rented in Cordoba and returned the car to the main Madrid Train station. Convenience was a factor in my decision.

Buy and download European maps to your own GPS and take that with you instead of renting one. It should be cheaper. You already know how to use your GPS.

I always rent through kemwel.com.

For best prices, don't rent from an airport. Often times, pick up at a train station can also result in surcharges. Check other locations for best prices. Drop off at airport or train stations don't affect prices.
