Car or not in Positano

What is the general consensus on having a car while in Positano? It will be in October, and the stay is for 3 nights only. Probably will not go to Pompeii.

The stop before Positano will be Florence, and the stop after is Rome so the choices would be the following:

1)Train from Florence to Naples, taxi/car service to hotel in Positano. When we do leave Positano, taxi, bus or ferry

2)Train from Florence to Naples, rent car in Naples, drive to Positano, keep the car, drop the car at Naples for train to Rome

3)Rental car from Florence to Positano, keep car, drop Naples, train back to Rome

I dont care too much about cost differences, just what makes the most sense logistically. Any thoughts? Thank you!

The first choice is by far the easiest, I would guess.

It depends on if you really want to drive around between the towns on the AC or if you want to take taxis or buses.

If money is no object I would hire taxis between towns or for day long tours and skip the buses and rental cars.

If a driver picks you up and drops you back off in Naples would be the easiest, I agree.

Been to the Amalfi Coast several times and can't imagine what anyone would do with a car there. I always used the Cita buses between my base Sorrento and Positano, Amalfi, Rapallo etc. You certainly would not use a car in Positano as it is carved out of the side of a mountain.

Have fun, it's a spectacular region.

Make that Ravello not Rapallo. Rapallo is near Santa Margherita Ligure in the North Med. region.
