Back for more advice. We know we want to spend a week in Chipping Campdon and are strongly considering car hire. Car hire is possible in Evesham, considerably cheaper than Hertz at Oxford and short dric
\ve to CC. Is there bus service from LHR to Evesham? Would it be better to take the train? How difficult is it to exit Evesham?

Per the National Express website - there are 3 coaches a day. The first two change at Birmingham and take 4.5 to 5 hours. The evening one changes at Cheltenham and takes 3.5 hrs. Trains would be easier.
But - even IF you went to Evesham on your arrival day, you'd be jumping in a car after an exhausting trek/jetlag.
Evesham is easy - but if you got a great rental rate from a local garage, why not spend your first night someplace like Oxford car-less, recover, rest, sightsee, then take a train up to Evesham the next day - less than an hour.
There's an hourly train, taking 2 hrs from Paddington (Heathrow Connect from LHR) or 90 mins from Reading (half hourly bus Either routing is probably a lot less pain than the buses via Birmingham or Cheltenham.
If your Evesham garage won't deliver, another option is to go straight from LHR to Chipping Campden (easiest: the same train, getting off at Moreton in Marsh then bus or cab for 6 miles), overnight there, then taxi (10 miles) or walk across the fields (about 7 miles) to Evesham the following morning.
Thank both of you very much. Sometimes solutions to problems are so simple they alude us. This was one of those times. I FEEL GOOD!!!
