Car advice
I'm trying to cost car rental for next summer in Scotland, and have been asked by travelling companions to look at Ford Mondeo or similar. I am not a car person (I can tell a Ferrari from a Landrover but that's about it), and when Ford Mondeo is not an option (eg for Europcar), what should I be looking at? I have literally no idea how the stated options compare to one another. I thought someone here was bound to know.

Even IF you reserve a Mondeo - you wouldn't be guaranteed getting one. Rental companies normally rent a class of car and say something like "Ford Mondeo or similar" or "Opel Vectra or similar"
A Mondeo would be claissified as a mid sized car.

You should pick your car size based on:
How many people are traveling with you?
HOw much luggage will you have?
Do you need automatic, or manual is okay?
In our limited experience of driving in Europe, we prefer the smallest car possible because of winding, narrow streets in old towns.
Earlier this month, I reserved an "economy" car (smallest size) and we received a Hyundai i30 hatchback. It was spacious enough for 4 adults to sit in, and the trunk was able to fit 4 carry-on size rollaboards snugly.

Yes, I realise that - I just don't know what I should be looking for in the classifications because the car names mean nothing to me. I have now found a different part to the Europcar site which suggests a Vauxhall Vectra is similar.
Thanks for the input, anyway.

Car rental sizes in europe are even smaller than in the US. (Since when did a Corolla become a mid size? Only to Hertz!)
How many people are you?
How big are you? (My beau is 6'3" and is not comfortable in anything smaller than a midsize.)
How much luggage do you have? And how large? (European trunks are not made for anything larger than about 25" - even in the larger cars.)

Three of us - but the Mondeo was as requested by the driver (you may have gathered by my blank ignorance of cars that I don't drive myself; when I'm travelling alone I use public transport or taxis). I'm only trying to be helpful by working out costs etc at this stage (again by request). I think I've got it now, anyway.
