Capri-Staying near Capri town vs. Anacapri
Based on the numerous comments on this board that Capri is magical in the evening, we are aiming to stay overnight rather than just making a day trip from Sorrento. Given this, I assume we should be trying to stay near Capri town rather than in Anacapri?
Any thoughts re good hotels near town? Among those highly rated on TripAdvisor, La Minerva is booked. I have requested availability for Hotel Luna and La Tosca, but I don't know if they will have a room (early October). Do you have any comments on these and/or other suggestions?
It would be great to stay under 300 euros (which would be a splurge for us), preferably considerably below. But we are getting relatively inexpensive hotels elsewhere, so we would be okay to splurge for one night. However, places like Grand Hotel Quisisana, La Scalinatella, and Casa Morgano, which sound great in guidebooks and some comments, have mixed reviews on TripAdvisor despite high cost. Any thoughts on these?
Thanks very much,
Len

We've stayed on Capri a number of times closer to Anacapri than Capri. Always at San Michele. When you enter the hotel's grounds you are suddenly on a different Capri than Marina Grande with the hordes of daytrippers. Once thay have all left on the late ferries, Capri is suddenly an enjoyable place to be!

I don't care what tripadvisor says, because I, the Great and Powerful Thingorjus, can tell you that Quisisana is one of the best hotels in the world. I have been posting here for over 7 years and I HIGHLY recommend Quisisana to anyone who is staying on Capri. I have two good friends who have been staying at Quisisana every summer for the last 15 years.
Luna is very nice, but the staff is extremely snooty.

Anacapri or Capri Town? - it doesn't matter IMO.
We spent a night in Anacapri and had a marvelous two-day stay. You can stop wrestling; just choose a hotel to your liking regardless of location...

Personally, if I was only there one night, I would stay in Capri Town. Having a late night limoncello (or 3!) in the Piazzetta, watching all the people, is just too much fun. You can always make the short trip to Anacapri in the daytime to take the chairlift to the top of Monte Solaro. This was one of my favourite excursions whilst on Capri.

You might want to check out Hotel Mamela- very pleasant and I would guess several euros less than La Quisiana - I would suggest staying near Captri and doing Anacapri as the daytime activity. Have a wonderful time!
