Canterbury or Rye?

Hi again,

Probably won't have time to see both places so if you had to choose between them which one would it be?

Plus can you combine Howlett's with Canterbury or Port Lympne with Rye? Which combination makes the most sense? Is combining like that feasible?

Can't really answer in a vacuum . . . IMO it entirely depends on what else you plan on seeing the same day.

Great Dixter, or Bodiam, or Kent/East Sussex Railway, or Sissinghurst -- then Rye fits best.

Dover, or Deal or Walmer, or maybe Leeds Castle -- then Canterbury.

Canterbury has one of the great gothic cathedrals, with extraordinary glass. Rye is quintessential Ye Olde England, very charming. Your choice.

Well we plan on doing Dover Castle and Walmer on a separate day. Then on another we wanted to do one of the animal parks--either Howlett's or Port Lympne and try to combine one of them with either Canterbury or Rye. Does that sound feasible?

I haven't been to Howlett's but have been to Port Lympne twice (LOVED it). It is a major attraction and would take almost as long as Dover castle. Since it would take an hour to get to Canterbury and maybe just a bit less to Rye IMO it would be a bit of a rush to combine either w/ Port Lympne.

I get the impression (from other threads) you are sort of 'thorough' sightseers so you might not be able to squeeze in quite as many sites as you hope.

From memory Rye is pretty but there is a lot more to see in Canterbury.
