Can't find my 10-10 # to Call Europe

I alternate between two --
101-6400
and 101-6868
Unlike the 1010 numbers these don't seem to have a minimum charge, nor do they charge you if you reach a busy signal. I've been billed around 5 cents a minute using these numbers to UK, France, and Italy. When I sent a fax, the TOTAL charge was 7 cents!

You simply pick up your phone and dial the number stated above, then dial 011 (international access) then dial the country code and number. That's all. On your regular phone bill there will be a charge for that call -- on my Sprint bill it comes as a separate item, not listed in line with other long distance calls. It's some sort of "wholesaler" that makes the calls and bills the discount rate direct to your home phone. Easy as pie.
Regarding the 10-10 numbers, I had a niece who stayed in my home for a week and kept trying to call her college age son at home, but the phone was always busy. At the end of the month I got a huge bill -- something like 50 calls at $1 each -- which was the minimum charge for a 10-10 call, even when it didn't go through.
These 101- international numbers don't do that.

Heads up! Don't attempt to use one of these services until you've compared rates at the site below. The rates and terms change often, so the service you used in the past could have changed.

Carolynk: From the US you dial 10-10-297 and then start with 011 etc. You don't have to wait for a tone or anything. By accessing that number you are charged a .35 access charge, a few cents a minute and I think some small tax.
There is also a website that I have bookmarked at home (I'm at work now) that you call a number in the US, listen to a 30 second advertisement tolisten to and then have a free call to Europe. If you have the Verizon freedom plan where you don't pay extra for any calls in the US, it ends up being free. I haven't tried it yet. I still use the 10-10-297

Some 10-10 numbers don't have connection charges either and some 10-16 ones do. There are hundreds of these numbers and you need to find one that works for you. Keep in mind that most have extra fees for cell phones - almost double the price.

Not all 1010 or 101 numbers work from everywhere. Depends in part on your own local phone company.
I use 1010 987 because at the time I learned of these type of numbers there were only 2 that worked w/ my small local phone co. in northern CA. Now more numbers are useable but I still use 10 10-987since it is so easy to remember. But check on the link Betsy provided or other websites to see which one you can use.
