Cannes >> Corsica
Fodor Friends:
Has anyone taken the high-speed/3 hr ferry from Nice to Corsica? We'll first be in Cannes in mid-late June, and I'm working to figure out the easiest way to get to Corsica. It just seems like between flight check-ins, waits, etc., that the ferry might be the way to go. Any intel on the front would be appreciated.
In terms of where to stay, I've done copious amounts of research. I love the feeling of this place: http://www.murtoli.com/en/ The price, however, is off the charts expensive. Crazy, even. But the rustic, yet nice, kind of secluded is what I'm after. If anyone has any suggestions, would love to hear 'em.
Thank you!

If you want to go to Murtoli/Sarte, it may not be the best idea to take a ferry to Calvi or Ile Rousse, ports at the other end of the Island. Fly to Figari or at least Ajaccio or take a ferry to Propriano or at least Ajaccio.

Calvi is a great base, you can tour the beautiful Balange region ( and eat some great food) will you have a car ( if not I suggest you do, taxi prices are very silly in Corsica) and driving the beautiful coast roads are a great in this area. You are also going at a wonderful time of year, nice and warm but before the hoards of visitors. Be aware though there is a Jazz festival in Calvi sometime late June so this could affect prices.....

You guys are ON it! Yes, I timed it so that we would a) arrive on the 21st and miss most of the Jazz festival stuff, and b) miss the hordes of visitors. And we've booked our place, so we're sorted on that front.
Calvi appeals to me because we will have just spent several days in Cannes. I love a beach, but exploring and driving and views and nice food and hiking are high on the list, too.
We will have a car. We're fairly experienced in terms of driving (stick or automatic) on windy/tight roads, so I'm hopeful it's not as "scary" as some folks have made it out to be.
Thank you!

Thanks, all! Our trip to Corsica was fantastic. We wound up flying from Nice to Calvi, and it couldn't have been easier. We did rent a car, and the roads were fine–the one exception was when we drove up into the mountains via a 'white road' (as depicted on the map). That was a little terrifying–it was basically a sheep path. But the views were stunning, and we stopped in several gite d'etapes, which were lovely.
Many thanks for all your help!
