Canadian citizens -- how are YOUR passports coming?

To those of you who are Canadians, especially Canadians living in the US. If you've had your passport renewed, how long is it taking?

I'm getting nervous for my mother. The Canadian passport office received her passport on May 21, and they are leaving for their first trip to Europe on Sept 7. The Canadian passport office says UP to 14 or 17 weeks, which would take up right up to the week that they are leaving for their trip. It's making me quite nervous because this is their first trip as I mentioned before and since they are both in their last 70's, sadly, this may very well be a once in a lifetime trip. In addition, since they are taking a tour, everything is paid for, plus it would be extremely dissapointing.

Anyway, what are the Canadian citizens' experience with the passport lead time?

This is so insane that neither the US or Canadian governments were smart enough to hire addl staff to take care of the requests..they had to anticipate it would be high...but I guess that's governments for you!!!

I'm not sure this helps but we received our Canadian passports 3 weeks after applying in person at the passport office in our home community. (Actually my husband's was back in 2 weeks, the rest took an extra week) We even applied in early February during the busy time when everyone was scrambling to get passports prior to spending time on the beach.
I have no idea if we were just lucky or if this is normal experience.

My brother and dad renewed theirs this year and it took about 3-4 months. They had to send theirs though as they live in a small town with no passport office.

Hope this helps!

The tour operator may be able to help. Worth a call at least. Her home politico could make it happen quickly; also worth a call. When we take a tour or a cruise we always pay for insurance option. Too late in this case?

I believe they did buy the insurance and my aunt in Canada is very involved in politics and knows quite a few elected officials, last week my mom called her to see if she might be able to recruit one of the deputies to help....let's all keep our fingers crossed!!!!

I had also thought about going to the Canadian Embassy in San Francisco, but their recording says that they don't deal with passports...seems others had the same idea as I did.

Making me VERY nervous!!!

My sister-in-law went to the passport office in TO and got hers within 2 weeks. She is a Canadian citizen living in Texas and came up to Cananda with the express purpose of renewing, had all documentaion, pictures, signator (must be Canadian, from one of the desinated professions and resident in the province from which you are applying). The passport office did check the signator's credentials: I know 'cause it was me!
