Can you still get old currency?

I know that this is kind of a silly question, but I am heading to Ireland and France in a few weeks and I was wodering if there was any chance I could get my hands on some of the old Irish or French coins/paper bills? Can I just go into a bank and exchange Euros? Thanks!!
