My husband and I are flying into Zurich and out of Milan for a 2 week vacation in Sept. (Tickets already booked.) We are interested in hiking, easy biking, cute towns and cool scenary.
Right now our plans are:
Fly into Zurich
Zurich - 2 nights
Bern - 2 nights
Lucerne - 2 nights
Wengen - 3 nights
Lugano - 2 nights
Italian Lakes Area - 4 nights
Fly out of Milan
Questions: Should we cut or eliminate our days in Italy to spend more time in Switzerland? Any comments about the rest of the itinerary re. amount of time spent in each place? Is Bern more like a big city than big town?
Thanks - there is so much to see in Switzerland I am having a hard time deciding.
Can you help me with this itinerary?

Looks like you are spending most of your time in Switzerland, why bother going to Milan to fly out, fly out from southern Switz, Berne, right! No reason to go to Milan in your itinirary. You can stop perhaps at the Italian side of lakes that border both countries.
I'm staying in Milan 5 out of 11 days in July,2007
Thanks for the feedback. As I mentioned, we already bought our tickets using frequent flyer miles, so it will be very difficult to impossible to change our flight out of Milan. American will charge several hundred dollars, even if flights were available.
I've always wanted to visit Lake Como and Bellagio, hence Milan. Now I am wondering if we are trying to get in too much.
How long do you think it takes to travel from Lugano to Milan?
>How long do you think it takes to travel from Lugano to Milan?< One hour plus to Malpensa.
>I've always wanted to visit Lake Como and Bellagio< For this reason, stick to your original itinerary - it's a good one...
