Can you help me make calls in Italy?
I am currently in Italy.
I have the T Mobile Simple Choice Plan.
En route I called my husband from Germany. He arrived in Italy prior to me.
The phone worked fine. He made a test call to me when I arrived at the hotel because from the airport in Italy I could not call him. His phone worked fine for one call to me in the hotel.
Since that one call now he is unable to make calls from his phone.
I have a Samsung Galaxy III. His is a little older Samsung model.
I was on the phone via Skype with T Mobile for over 40 minutes yesterday and they could not correct the problem.
The text function works fine, thank heavens.
Can anyone help? I know someone here has used this plan with a phone in Italy.
Thanks

You have to have the phone set to make calls using wifi as first choice , at lest that is what they told me with my Galaxy S 5. We had a very difficult time in Newfoundland using TMobile even when we had wifi, even for getting texts. My husband was also up Maine and had awful time with making calls, rural Syracuse too.
We are going to Europe For 3 months and expressly switched to TMobile for these benefits. We are going to several countries and I am not very optimistic about the service.

Is your phone set for GSM?
Not sure on your phones, but check to see they are.
On my phone.
1. Go to Settings
2. under Network connections touch More networks
3. Touch Mobile Networks
4.Is Mobile Data box checked? Should be
5. Click on Network mode-- be sure GSM is checked
Hope this helps. May not be exactly the same on S3

My husbands is a samsung relay, it is a SGH-t699. Mine, as I said is the Galaxy III.
I am going to try the WiFi but we keep getting a message in Italian and then English that the number we are trying to call is not registered.
I just do not understand how it worked perfectly in Germany

I did select WiFi and it worked. It is set to GSM.
And Data Roaming is on.
Now. Will it only work if I am in a WiFi network?
I thought this was going to be so simple especially since I just picked up the phone in Munich and dialed!
But this has been a big help. Thanks

The S3 is GSM capable. They have the "ability" to be GSM but also to be other types as well, you can chose which type so the OPs Galaxy may not be set properly, hence my instructions on setting the phone to GSM. Don't know about husbands capability , but it too may be set incorrectly.
I believe OP is trying to call husbands US phone number and vice versa.

Yes. I am trying to call my husband's phone . We are both in Italy. Mine worked just fine to call him just now. Seems silly to call him when we are both in the same hotel room!
Spark chaser. I just dialed my husbands number. No country code. Just the area code and number.
But that is when it is set to WiFi.
How many digits should I dial just to call him while we are both here?

Just call him using the regular 10 digits. Area code and #. Your phones doesn't know it's in Italy nor does his. And I am pretty sure you will only get/make wifi calls.
IF you call local Italian number...that's a bit different.

It depends. What country is your husband's phone number? Whatever country that is, use that dialing code.
If you both have phones with U.S. phone numbers, as long as you are not in the US, you will always have to dial 1-area code-number. ALWAYS.
If your husbands number is (202) 456-1111 then while in Europe, you will either need to dial:
+12024561111
or
0012024561111

J62. Mine is working fine just using it but it is now set to WiFi and I am so happy to have at least accomplished this.
I can text him. And I will just have to call my Mom she is 91 and I like to keep in touch, using Skype.
I just do not understand why it worked flawlessly while I was traveling here and now not.

Sparkchaser. IT worked. He just called me.
All of you guys are the BEST.
T Mobile was telling us to call 011-xxx-xxx-xxxx.
I think I actually got Russia once!
This is just the start of our vacation and I knew someone here would help me.
