Can I get from Edinburgh to Cardiff by train?
I am planning a UK vacation next June and want to go from Edinburgh to Cardiff on the train. Is this possible without going all the way to London? I tried a couple of websites (britrail.net and thetrainline.com) and both said they "could not match my request." Thanks in advance!

Yes, you can travel this route without going through London. It is possible to go from Edinburgh to Cardiff by changing in Manchester, Crewe, or Bristol Parkway. The German rail site has schedules for all of Europe (http://reiseaufkunft.bahn.de).

Try nationalrail.co.uk
It tkaes 7 to 8 hrs inc changeover (1 only)
The site will not give you times for the summer until the changeover of timetables in the spring, but to give you an idea of the times tap in a Jan 2004 date, the timetables do not change that much

On a weekday, on present times, a journey might be Edinburgh 1006, Manchester Piccadilly 1315 to 1333, Cardiff 1632. Both trains have buffet cars.
