I am in need of a transporation/ limo service to take 5 people from central rome to florence, and then several days later a pick up in Florence to return to Rome Airport.
I am looking at airportcitytransfer.com and taxi-airports-transfer.com Has anyone used these companies? Any other suggestions?

Unless someone in your party has mobility problems, it's very easy travelling by high-speed train between Rome and Florence. Stations are both in city centre and there are plenty of taxis available. Journey time is as little as 90 min, and there are frequent services. By booking in advance, you can get a one-way fare as low as 9 euro.

I agree about taking the train, just buy a ticket (advance purchase can be as low as 9€)and hop on. Walk up price is about 40€.

I used Limo Service Rome (not to be confused with a company that adds an S to the end of service in an attempt to hijack their good reputation and business) years ago for transport from FCO into Rome. They do transfers to Florence. It seems 5 people would be 420€. I would make sure there was enough luggage space. Andrea was the person I mainly dealt with in e-mails.

Rome Shuttle Limousine is usually cheapest from FCO to Rome so I would expect they may have a better rate than Limo Service Rome. They only list a tour to Florence (550€ - 5 people) so you would have to e-mail about a price for transfer only. There are lots of positive reviews on this board for them.

You might want to look at a service in Florence for the transport to the airport especially if you have an early flight. I wouldn't want to be dependent on a service based in Rome.

You should consider staying in Florence first and ending your trip with your stay in Rome. It's easier transport and less risk of snafus getting to the airport.

The kinds of questions you are asking could easily be handled by a travel agent or a wedding planner. You pretty much have to have a planner to do the paperwork, don't you? And there are travel agents who work with business travelers who do this kind of stuff all the time. Save yourself some trouble up front.

Transport from city to city has nothing to do with weddings and people ask transport questions every day on this forum. Don't see why a wedding planner would be needed.

There have also been quite a few people plan Italian weddings on Fodor's and several Fodorites have married in Italy and can respond to those questions anyway.

99 percent of the questions asked on Fodors could be avoided if we would all just use travel agents and take whatever they dish out to us.

I also agree about taking the train, it is in fact the cheapest option.

Thank you for suggestions. We could take the train to Florence and may do that, but the return flight is 12:00 from Rome and we wanted to spend the last night in Florence. then go directly from Florence to FCO by 10:00 a.m. 2 hours prior to departure. I feel that taking the train, would be very tight not much room for possible problems...

I would not take the change of staying in Florence with your flight home from Rome. Even with a car service, problems with traffic could cause you to miss your flight. I would stay in Rome the final night.

I think you better check with your airlines. Some say three hours prior to departure. Flights to the US usually start boarding one hour before departure. When you get to FCO, you have to catch a shuttle bus (often very crowded and you might have to wait until the next bus) to the check in area. There are several things to go through there (passport, check in, security, etc.). Each may have lines and take a bit of time. You then take another shuttle bus to the terminal.

I agree with jamikins. I would spend the night in Rome. I wouldn't want to book a 3+ hour transfer service (Florence company, not one based in Rome) which could run into a big traffic jam.

What happens if you miss your flight home? Do you have to wait for a flight with available seats? In the high season this could take days. And then pay full fare for the tickets?

Especially in Italy stuff happens: traffic jams, train strikes, breakdowns, etc. And it seems to take longer there to clear these things up. So it's always recommended strongly that you be in your departure city the night before.

And just take the train to Florence. It will be more comfortable than a limo.

What I would NOT do is take any, and I mean ANY sort of train such as the Leonardo Express TO FCO for the departure. Why? Because as others have pointed out, you have to go to Terminal 5 first (and you'll need a shuttle to get you there) for the check-in procedure and IMO you should take a cab or a limo TO Terminal 5 and be done with that.

You wanted to stay in Florence the night before? Forget it since the frist train to Rome doesn't leave Florence until almost 6:00 AM as you have seen.

And if you DO stay in Florence, what time do you think that limo is going to be picking you UP to get to the airport?????
