I don't want to have to check things into a locker while visiting the Vatican. I plan on taking in a Nikon DSLR.
Will they require me to check a DSLR size camera bag (over the shoulder, smaller than a messenger bag)? Or should I just plan on having a holster strapped to (my husband's) belt?
We don't plan on bringing back packs, but just couldn't tell what they would realistically force you to check.
(Yes I know about no pics in the Sistine Chapel).
Thanks!

we went into the Vatican museums with a large variety of bags and cameras, but no-body cared. no flash was allowed in the museums, and as you say, no pics at all in the Sistine chapel, though inevitably some people did take them on their phones.
i wouldn't worry about it - just take what is most comfortable for you.
Think that it's perhaps only on the Scavi tour that such items are forbidden?
Peter
The museum has a list of sizes you are supposed to check. Many people carry small backpacks.
