Calmac Ferry : What if I miss my particular sailing ?

Hi,

I have got a query on calmac ferry. As some of you have advised that I should book my Mallaig to Armadale ferry in advance as I want to get on to a specific sailing (10:50am) but what if I miss that sailing. Would I be rebooked on next sailing on the same date if i get late on the way or will I have to repurchase the new tickets for next sailing and forgo my initial tickets? Checked calamc site but they don't seem to answer this clearly in FAQ or conditions etc. Will appreciate if you could help me with your experience.

Thanks in advance.

I believe that single tickets are valid for the day of travel, meaning if you miss your reserved sailing, you can take the next ferry assuming there's room available. I doubt you will encouter any problems. Here is CalMac's email if you want to get a more definitive answer.

I think historytraveler is correct. Not having ever missed a ferry myself I'm not positive. But I think your ticket will be good assuming there is space on later sailings.

But an e-mail should get the answer you need . . .

It's not a problem at all unless the following ferry is full. We took this same ferry earlier this year but arrived earlier than our booked sailing. A simple visit to the ticket office in Mallaig sorted it all out and we were on the next ferry without any drama. You can also phone CalMac's central booking number during your trip if you want to modify a reservation.

On two occasions we have arrived really early and have been asked if we wanted to go on an earlier ferry because there was room.
I've always found Calmac staff very helpful.

Here's the website link to the details about ticket validity.

http://www.calmac.co.uk/tickets/standard-tickets.htm

single tickets are valid only for the day of travel, return tickets for a month.

so long as you turn up on the right DAY, you should be ok.
