Thinking of going to Switzerland May 10-18, 2013. Can't find a site that will tell me which cable cars/funiculars, etc. will be open at that time of year. Thinking of Berner Oberland area, will go as far as Sion. Interested especially in Mannlichen.
Any help?
Cable cars that are operating in May in Switzerland?

Hi kenav,
Unfortunately, you have to find the website for each cable car and check its opening hours.
Here's the link to the Männlichenbahn:
http://www.maennlichen.ch/en/
Check under "Times" for their summer and winter timetables.
Then just google the rest of the ones you're interested in.
s
Yes, most will be operating then - but you have to check each one. (We have been in late spring several times and found everything we were interested in operating.)
Typically the season for closing for repairs is more likely to be Oct or Nov - before the start of high season.
Looks like the Mannlichen from Wengen will be open on May 17 (day before we leave), but the one from Grindelwalkd won't be open until later in May.
Can either of you help, or anyone else, with the names of the possible cable/funicular rides so that I can look them up individually?

kenav,
We don't know where you're going. Sion and Berner Oberland are pretty big places.
Maybe it would be a good idea to spend some time in a library going through a guidebook for Switzerland -- locate the cable cars that are mentioned in the areas you're interested in.
s
Well, I don't mean that Sion itself is a big place! But I would guess that there are maybe four to six cable cars available from Sion or nearby.
For instance, I spent 11 nights in Gstaad this summer. There were two (or three maybe) cable cars from Gstaad, two from neighboring Schönried, one from neighboring Gsteig, one from neighboring Saanemöser, one from neighboring Zweisimmen, one from neighboring Rougemont, and one from nearby Chateau dOex. So, even in a relatively small place, there can be a whole lot of cable cars.
s
HI swandav2000 - Yes, these places are far apart and "big" in themselves. We'll be staying in the Berner Oberland area but also in Bern for 4 nights. I'm just trying to find out possibilities of mountain trips for the time that we will be there.
Melnq - Thought Schnygge Platte wouldn't be open yet. Have to check that out. I went there 8 years ago and absolutely loved the Alpine Garden there as well as the funicular up.
Just checked, Schynige Platte is only open from May 26th. Damn.
Nice cable car at Lungern to Schoenbuel, opened May 15 this year...
Harder Kulm in Interlaken opened April 21st this year.
Best of all--the Stanserhorn new Cambrio "open-air shelf" gondola lists April as opening time!
check out their site at www.stanserhorn.ch
Hardly anything will be open in the Berner Oberland.
There is a fantastic website that lists all the cable cars/gondolas - especially the lesser known ones. It's only in German, but I am sure you can navigate the website. Click on the respective canton that you want to research, then click on the link in the col "Betriebszeiten"
www.alternatives-wandern.ch
Good luck!
I.
What a GREAT site Ingo!
Just in time for my trip to Nidwalden/Obwldan area in 12 days!
Ingo - I don't see the "Betriebszeithen" column.
kenav,
start under "Wanderungen", then click on your canton (Bern)on the map.
This brings up a list of hikes with further information.
Here you will find the Betriebszeiten column, lists hours/seasons of operation.
Hope this helps!
Sorry, I omitted a step, after clicking on Kanton Bern on the map, click left upper on Bergbahnen to bring up mountain railways/gondolas, etc
It is under here that a Betriebszeiten column runs!
Sorry, I should have given the directions.
Proceed either as mokka suggested or click on "Bergbahnen" on the left side, then choose the canton.
Hi kenav
In the Gstaad area are two cable cars open: http://www.gstaad.ch/en/page.cfm/CablecarsSummer/CalenderPricesSummer/SummerOpeningDates
--> look at the 2013 dates!
Glacier 3000 with surely still a lot of snow
Rellerli with mountain spring time. Maybe still some snow, maybe already some spring flowers.
Enjoy your planning.
pb
Did everything I was supposed to do to get to "Bergbahnen", but still don't see it.
Yipes.
Once more: The second item on the upper left is "Bergbahnen". Click on it, more choices open below it, and click on the canton you wish to research.
The places with cable cars appear in alphabetical order, in the col "Betriebszeiten" you find the respective links for the operation times.
Ingo- FInally got it! Was looking at the top not at the side. Thanks.
