Buying theatre tickets on the day

Hello all,
I love going to Westend shows when I'm in London but the prices are pretty extravagant. I usually go to tkts on the day but I heard from several people that if you go to the theatre of choice in the morning on the day of the performance you can get cheap tickets, as cheap as 20 quid for stall seat.

Any experience with this. I'm hoping to see Once among others the next time I am in London this summer.

Thanks so much

It really depends on the show you want to see. Some are very popular and never have seats left over for sale at TKTS but others do.

You can check it out online to get an idea at www.tkts.co.uk

I believe you can now buy a few days in advance as well as day of so that might give you a better idea.

Once is a pretty popular show. If you must see it, or must see it on a particular evening, then you'll want to pre-book and forget about discounts.

jamikins gives good advice. TKTS is the way to go for same day show. in addition to the website you can drop by their kiosk in Leicester Square to browse discounts

I thought tkts only sold on the day or a day ahead.
Thanks so much everyone for your replies.
