Burgundy, France - car required or no?

I'm planning a trip to Burgundy, France next year (late April/early May), likely to be ~5 days or so. I'm tentatively thinking of staying in Beaune. I'm a big wine fan - the main reason for the trip - but of course am also interested in the culture there.

Is it necessary to have a car to sight see in Burgundy or is there convenient public transport available in the area?

thanks in advance for your advice!

Take the TGV to Dijon and pick your car up there, near the train station.

you will definitely need a car to explore the wine area. We stayed at a wonderful B&B halfway between Beaune and Dijon. The owner was an expert on the wine country and helped us plan our trips each day. If you are interested I will try and find the name and address.

Yep - get a car. "no brainer". The car rental place we passed most days for 2 weeks, wasn't that close to the train station, however. Maybe there are several rental places in Beaune.
