bull fights and flamenco
We are going to Madrid and Sevilla 3/1/08-3/10/08.... and I was wondering if anybody knew how to locate a good bullfight during that time or also a good Flamenco show?
We will have my two teen-age daughters who are very interested in seeing both.
Also where would I buy an authentic Cordobes Hat?
Many thanks

In Seville, Casa de la Memoria is an excellent place to see flamenco. They have two shows a night, each with different performers, and the performers change each night. We went to the early show (twice) and didn't need reservations, but I'm sure you do for the later show. email: [email protected]

March is not within the bullfight season:

There are several Flamenco shows. Beside Case de la Memoria, there is:
http://www.tablaoelarenal.com/
and
http://www.tablaolosgallos.com/
The www.tripadvisor.com has reviews on Casa and Los Gallos. The latest Rick Steves' Seville DVD has a scene from Los Gallos.
Before the Flamenco show, recommend visiting the Flamenco Museum -- learn about the dance history, styles, and movements you will see later at the show.

Hi there:
About the hat...there is more than one type of authentic Cordobes hat. One is higher one is lower and more flat.
Is it for a man? Is it a gift? is it for a dancer? Is it for use while on horseback?
They are cheap BTW. Let me know & I will try to help.

You want to bring two teenage girls to a bullfight?? BIG mistake. Don't do it!
Do some research (check out the "Bullfights in Spain" forum on this website) and you'll see that it's a cruel, bloody, stupid spectacle of torture that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. Your daughters may have their trip ruined by the shocking scene.

If you are unable to attend a bullfight when in Seville, and if you are sufficiently interested, the bullring has a museum attached to it that you may wish to check out.
We attended one in April during the Feria. I've never felt an atmosphere like it. Hard to describe. It felt almost like a huge party.
Due to the heat (and some health problems I have that the heat exacerbated) we had to leave after about 50 minutes.
Would I go to another? No. That said, I can easily take that decision as I have been to one.
As I said in a previous post it is an important part of Spanish culture and I would never insult those very kind people who cared for us by criticizing it.
