Budget hotel in Sorrento
Hi,
I would like to visit Sorrento in Italy. I have been told than Amalfi Coast, Sorrento and the whole area are very expensive. Does anybody know if there is some chance for me to find a budget accommodation there? I am travelling alone. Thanks

It can be quite expensive in high season - July and August - but there are deals in shoulder season (late May, June and Sept). And there are always less expensive choices - what exactly is your budget?
And when will you be there? (It's very cheap off season - but then many things are closed/don;t run and you can't use the beaches.)

I can recommend the Ulisse Delux Hostel. It's not really a hostel, looks and feels like any 3 star hotel I've stayed in. Very nice rooms, common areas. The breakfast was extra but only 5€ when I was there (few years ago) and very substantial. Short walk to the main part of town with restaurants and shops. If you stuck your head out the window you could see the sea. I will stay there again. http://www.ulissedeluxe.com/

We really like Il Nido. It's just outside of town, up the hill, so it has fabulous sea views, but they run a frequent shuttle to town, so getting there and back is no problem. Also, it's on the road the SITA bus takes to the Amalfi Coast, so you can pick it up right there w/o having to get to the bus stop by the train station in town (this only works off-season, when the bus isn't packed from the start).

I agree with Il Nido. Free shuttle bus to and from town except for mid-day (maybe around 11-4 or so). The Sita buses pass by so you can take those mid-day. They used to provide free pickup at the train station on arrival day. I don't know if they still do that, but you can e-mail and ask. The advantage to staying at Il Nido over in town is the views. Many hotels in town don't have views. You don't have to have a balcony (you might prefer to have one though) at Il Nido for the views as they are great from the restaurant and restaurant balcony.

In town, another budget hotel (no views) in the center of things is the Mignon.

I suggest Spicy Hotel http://www.hotelspicy.com/en it's very unexpensive compared to hotels in the area and I am quite surprised about this because it is such a funny place. If you are travelling alone you won't get bored, trust me, at night the hall turns into a lounge bar for very interesting parties.

Hi
Try Hotel Il Faro - http://www.hotelilfaro.com. If you want a good, inexpensive option for Positano - http://hostel-positano.com. We stayed in a private double a few years ago and loved it.
