Budget Accomodations in Tromso

Hello All,

I am having a real hard time finding budget accomodations in Tromso from March 12th to 16th (4 nights). Would appreciate any and every help/suggestions/recommendations in this matter.
Also, if we rent a car in Tromso how does parking work. Is it hard to find street parking or would have to pay per hr/day??

It is hard, really hard.

We stayed in one of the hotels on a very good deal.

I think we paid £80 a night including a huge breakfast. Dining out is very expensive, the basic pizzas were £15. The hotels which off deals do work out pretty good value as if you can skp lunch by having a large breakfast you save the cost of one meal.

Great place BTW.

Piya...we found the same situation that Dickie describes. We chose the very nice downtown Radisson on a special and paid $130...a very sumptuous breakfast. Great location to walk everywhere in town...and it was late summer, high tourist season. Found an Asian (Chinese-Japanese) resto at the harborside nearby where prices were more or less close to USA with excellent menu offerings. I'll post some Tromso pics below. (Plenty of parking in town and Radisson had it's own lot. Can't recall the cost). Where will you be coming from? We came from Bodo by rental car and ferry to the Lofotens which are exceptionally scenic, and by a series of car ferries and colorful traffic-free drives to Tromso.

We stayed at the Rica but I think the Radisson is the best value if you can get a deal. When we were there just none available. The Bryygen is also very well placed and reasonable.

As Stu says, parking is fine, it isn't a large city just a smallish town. Perfect size really.

Piya, are you planning to visit any other regions of Norway? When do you leave?

Hey Guys, Thank you for all the info.
@tower - We have a total of 7 nights from March 12th to the 18th)and below is how we plan on spending the time while in Norway.
March 12th to 16th - Tromso chasing the lights. (Any specific tour suggestions??)
March 16th - 19th - We plan on spending one whole day in Oslo and then renting a car and driving from Oslo-Bergen back to Oslo in 2 days/2 nights.
Any other suggestions/recommendations would be highly appreciated.

Piya, you might consider taking the Norway in a Nutshell train tour, Oslo to Bergen and return by regular train. Total costs would probably be not much more than car rental (steep), gasoline, lodgings, etc. Look into it..the fjord scenes on the N-I-N are outstanding..here are some Norway pics including the N-I-N in next post.

We did not do any lightchasing as it was August.

For Piya..these should familiarize you with both Bergen and Oslo..check out the Lofoten pics, also.
