I would like to spend 1-2 nights somewhere between Budapest and Krakow. Any suggestions?
Where, why, hotel/apartment recommendation, etc?
BTW...I'm driving a rental car. This is just one leg of our trip.
Thanks!

Zakopane, Poland? Although it's not in-between Budapest & Krakow if your point was to find a spot so you're not driving that entire way in one go...

(Well it is in-between, just much closer to Krakow).
This town was mentioned on a recent thread. It looks so charming but it's east of Krakow and not in a direct line from Budapest. However, since you have a car it might be possible for you to visit and stay over. It looks well worth a side trip.

Both great ideas.
I was thinking about the Tatra's Mountain area. Maybe Levoča?
Cyber-Sully-- you happen to be planning the trip we are thinking on for Summer 2013!! If you are American, do you know if there are any border VISA requirements/entry requirements for Slovakia and Romania? We are planning a road trip drive from Krakow to Budapest with a "detour" to Romania; any particular reason you are driving the other way around? I read beautiful things about Nowy Sacz. Maybe one to consider?
This is just one leg of our trip. Here is the whole trip:
Start Vienna, Austria: 5 nights
Bratislava, Slovakia: Drive through day trip on way to Budapest
Budapest, Hungary: 5 nights
Levoca, Slovakia: 2 nights
Krakow, Poland: 5 nights (maybe 6)
Telc, Czech: 1 night
End Vienna: Fly home
Cyber_Sully....could you please tell me who you rented the car from and how much they charged? My research shows all the major car rental companies have drop off fees of $500 plus.
Thanks
