Budapest Danube dinner cruise-worth it?
I am going to Budapest next week (yes, I know it will be cold!). I usually don't go for the usual "tourist tours" but am considering a Danube dinner cruise. Is it worth the time and money?

I did the evening cruise without the dinner, and thought it was very worthwhile. If I had been eating at the same time I think I'd have missed some of the scenery. Besides, the food is usually better and cheaper on shore.

I think the tour without food would be better..I agree with thursdaysd..the food isn't worth it but the sights are. I think a nice dinner afterwards at one of the many great restaurants would be worth it.
It will be cold but it's February and so the place won't be crawling with tons of tourists, you'll get a better feel for the country (tho I have done a winter and a summer trip and I enjoyed it better in summer just because I felt like I could see everything easily)
Budapest is fun..have a great time.

Thanks for the quick replies! We have done February trips for the past several years and I must say that I do love the feel of the cities in winter without tourists! It does make sense to do the trip without the dinner, just to see the wonderful nighttime lights of Budapest. Thanks again.

We took a regularly scheduled boat from Szentendre back to Budapest in the evening--Budapest was very pretty with many buildings, bridges and statues lighted. No commentary, of course, but very cheap.
Another fantastic view of Pest at night can be had from the top of Buda.
Can't comment on whether a dinner cruise would be worth the money--but it wouldn't haven much appeal for me.

I took a Danube dinner cruise last October. The boat slowly went down the Danube one direction while we were eating and then back (several hours). The food was okay, but the views of the illuminated bridges and structures on the banks were wonderful. Just know going in that you are cruising for the views, not the food.
If you want to take photos, make sure that there is an open area (like an upper deck) that you can freely access since I don't think they would turn out well through the windows.
