Answering that question without understanding what youu want to see is very hard. Have you done any research on sightseeing in Budapest? There are 2 cities separated by the Danube - Buda and Pest and they each have unique sites, depending on your interest. There is a HOHO bus tour you can do which will give you an overview of all the top sights. That would take a day, without muuch opportunity to investigate anything in depth.
Report back with your interests and we can advise you better.
I think you need at least 4 nights there - but without knowing your interests - and details of the rest of your trip - it's hard to provide a useful answer.
Thank you for your help,I will have researched as much as possible before I go,it is one of the only major cities in Europe I have not been to and experience tells me in some cities a couple of days is enough and others you are so wishing you had planned more time!
