Bucharest to Sofia by Bus

Hi,

I want to go from Bucharest to Sofia by bus in April 2016. Can anyone tell me how to do this please? Do I need to buy tickets in advance? And how?

thanks!

Have you thought about the train instead?

Hi thanks. We considered the option, but the train takes 2 hrs longer, and that means 2 hours less in Bucharest.

well, if you know that the train takes 2 hours longer than the bus, you must have access to a timetable. and if you have a timetable, you will have a website.

so if you would like someone here to help you, you could post the link to the bus company's website.

I doubt if anyone here has ever taken that bus, and not many will have been to Bucharest or Sofia [I have and it's lovely].

you need to help us to help you.

I rarely if ever take a bus if a train exists.

(And I prefer Sofia to Bucharest.)

If I were going to do it by bus, which I wouldn't unless I wanted to stop off somewhere the bus went and the train didn't, I'd look for copies of the relevant Lonely Planet and/or Rough Guide guide books. They usually list bus companies. Otherwise I'd just wait until I got to Bucharest. If the bus didn't work out, you could always take the train.

Rome2Rio.com is your friend

It shows timetables, and refers you to the relevant websites.Buses are substantially faster than trains on this route - which seem to operate as if the Iron Curtain still exists, and was halfway between the two cities.

But I don't think there's a direct bus any more. You need to change at the border (and there's just one bus a day), and I don't think they've yet caught on at that border that they're both in the EU.

I stand corrected. but it would be ever so nice if posters starting threads would share that sort of information with us so we know where to start.
