You'll have to take the train to Brussels and then change. Brussels to A'dam is 2 hours by train. In Brugge you can always take a sightseeing bus which will be quicker than if you take the train to Brussels and then up to Amsterdam. They will probably have sightseeing tours, etc. What you want to see is up to you; any large city has almost too much to see for 1 day. In Amsterdam, a reputable sightseeing organization in the city is HOLLAND INTERNATIONAL which you see everywhere. In Brugge, any travel agent or the trainstation information window could tell you about taking a bus to Amsterdam. Good luck.

belgium to amsterdam is a great trip!
it's pretty short and if you have been to france already you will notice how belgium is like a cross between the netherlands and france. while in amsterdam be sure to try the indonesian food there... it's really amazing. if you ohave time i would recommend stopping in the hague (den haag) too, a great city with lots to see and do. but you got to go to amsterdam as well for the museums. the sex museum is quite an experience, if a bit disconcerting at moments. boyfriend and i spent a holiday in belgium and france.. and on the last day on whim decided to go up to the netherlands, the site of our first meeting. very worth it.
good choice.

There are no buses to Amsterdam from Bruges/Brugge. For the best and quickest way, you have to take the train to Brussels (midi-station) (1 hour) and take the Thalys or regular train to Amsterdam (2 hours)

took the train through Antwerp. Can't remember how long of a trip it was, but I remember it being very short.
Things to do in Amsterdam: Anne Frank House, Van Gogh Museo, Red Light District (v. interesting to see!), Flower Market...
I spent 2 full days there, and I thought it plenty.
